World Patient Safety Day – Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety – “Get it right, make is safe!”

World Patient Safety Day on the 17th of September is the cornerstone of action to promote global health and safety. This year the chosen theme by the WHO is “improving diagnosis for patient safety” in line with the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021- 2030 which highlights the need for ensuring the safety of diagnostic processes.

The objectives for this year are to raise global awareness of errors in diagnosis contributing to patient harm and emphasise the important role of correct, timely and safe diagnosis in improving patient safety; to foster collaboration with policymakers, healthcare professionals, and patient organisations among others; and to empower patients and families to actively engage with healthcare professionals to improve diagnostic processes.
