Building on its established experience with the International Accreditation Programme (IAP), and in response to growing demand from training organisations, ISQua EEA published the Guidelines and Standards for Quality and Patient Safety Training Programmes. These standards provide a dedicated framework designed to support the evaluation and continuous improvement of professional development training in this critical field.

This new external evaluation programme enables training providers to demonstrate that the design, management, and delivery of their courses align with international best practice in quality and patient safety. As part of the broader International Accreditation Programme (IAP) framework, the process follows a robust and familiar structure:

  • Self-assessment by the participating organisation against ISQua EEA standards and criteria.
  • Peer review evaluation of the submitted self-assessment and supporting evidence.
  • Comprehensive written report including findings and recommendations.
  • Ongoing continuous assessment to support sustained improvement.

Who is this programme for?

The Quality and Patient Safety Training Programme is designed to assess continuous professional development (CPD) courses and training programmes focused on quality and patient safety, or closely related areas. This includes:

  • Standalone courses in quality and patient safety.
  • Specialist programmes (e.g. focusing on infection prevention and control, clinical risk management).
  • Training developed and delivered by professional bodies such as medical associations or private providers.
  • Programmes delivered in-person, virtually, or through blended learning formats
  • Training programmes developed as a collaboration between professional organisations and educational institutions, and offered as CPD.

What is outside the scope?

Programmes delivered directly by universities or third-level education institutions are not included within this accreditation.

Supporting excellence in training

With this new initiative, ISQua EEA aims to strengthen the global standard of quality and patient safety education by providing a clear, internationally recognised pathway for training providers to validate and enhance their programmes. By aligning with these standards, organisations can not only demonstrate credibility but also contribute to improving outcomes across healthcare systems worldwide.

For organisations committed to excellence in training, this programme offers both recognition and a structured path for continuous development.
